Getting ready for GDPR

GDPR – General Data Protection Regulations – come into force across the EU on 25th May 2018.

While many of the requirements in these regulations are the same or similar to the existing Data Protection Act, there are a number of areas with new requirements, requiring all businesses, charities, NFP and public organisations to amend some of their policies and processes. All organisations have suppliers, customers, staff or other contacts, and staff and management need to be aware of what they need to do and the consequences if there is a breach in those systems.

One highly publicised element is the need to get contacts to opt-in to newsletters and marketing materials. Saying “I don’t have a mailing list” does not mean you do not need to comply with the GDPR.
