How do you choose a networking group?

March 21st, 2014

Having had a few discussions recently with others about networking groups, it seemed useful to summarise some of the areas to consider, when deciding which group to attend, or join.

The issues will vary from person to person and business to business. However, there are a few common areas to consider before you start and certainly before you commit your time and money.

All groups have websites – with varying degrees of information, contact details and booking procedures, so see what you can find out first, then call them. Any group leader / franchise holder should welcome a call from a potential new member. Common areas of discussion I’ve been involved with are:

  • location
  • time of day
  • frequency
  • formality
  • whether you have to do a short pitch
  • their expectations of you
  • cost structure
  • who else goes
  • what it feels like when you get there

Contact me if you’d like to discuss ways of building your networking skills and strategy and, if you are in the area, I’d be pleased to invite you to one of the groups I attend.
